I started work this morning at 7.39am, finished at 2.39pm, started again at 5.15pm and am technically supposed to be there until 12.45am (happily, the event I was working for finished early so I'm already home). I'm tired. And I really have nothing of substance to say but I felt like posting before going to bed...

I finally saw some L.J. Smith books in an actual bookshop today. I think this is the first time I've seen any of her stuff in a shop since the goth TVD reprints came out. I noticed that the Dark Visions reprint is actually a UK one and not a US import like I'd assumed, which means I have some minor changes to make to the cover site. BUT, what was most interesting about the reprint was that it said a TFG reprint was coming soon. Yay! Yay for Julian's irresistible hotness and crazy stalking!

I'm hoping to catch up on comments, e-mails and fanlistings tomorrow but until this, [info]violentviolette, I LOVE YOU *squish*

In what must rate as one of the highlights of the month, the organist at work played the Superman theme today. It was fucking awesome.

(The organ at Kelvingrove is fucking huge and the building was designed so that the music can be heard throughout the whole thing. The organists usually play pretty stolid stuff like Rule Britannia and various hymn-type-things, so Superman? Unexpected and fucking amazing!)

I'm just home from work and I have two things to say:

01) Dermatologists are really used to getting their own way. Cajoling, threatening and/or complimenting me will not get me to bend the rules for you. So get over it.

02) I don't think I can ever forgive my flatmate for suggesting I read Villette. I want to kill myself and I still have at least 100 pages to read :/

Because the BBC are pissing me off by claiming that no one knows who John Donne is, I conducted an informal poll at work today and everyone had heard of him. Now, you could argue that some of the people asked work in a library, so it's natural that they would know, but I honestly think that people are not as clueless as the BBC like to think. So, friends list:

Poll #1406075
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 13

Do You Know Who John Donne Is?

View Answers

Yes
12 (92.3%)

No
1 (7.7%)

I also conducted an informal poll about docking after sharing what it was with several people. The vote was split 50-50 between people going 'ew!' and those going 'really? Interesting...' It's the logistics of it that intrigues people, I swear.

And after all that excitement, I punished myself by going bra shopping. Which fucking sucked and I begrudge the £31 I spent as it could have been spent on, say, tickets to see Simon Amstell. Of course, this does mean I can throw out the bras I already own which are over three years old, misshapen and not the freshest smelling. (Disgusting, right? I'm that person.)

Unfortunately, with the exception of a stressful ten minutes in which I repeatedly asked a group of French students to please stop touching the art, nothing of note happened at work today. I think the excitement of yesterday was too much.

To make up for this sad lack of shenanigans, I reread The Vampire Diaries: The Struggle & The Fury. I don't really want to reread The Reunion. The Fury wrapped everything up to my satisfaction and I remember being intensely annoyed at a lot of the fourth book, even though it gave us Klaus and more Damon. And again, Stefan, I gotta say, no matter what Elena says you did have a reason to apologise to Caroline. Trying to kill a bunch of people while she watches isn't really cool, you know?

Star Trek: The Next Generation + Family Guy = hilarity!

(I've been spending my scant free time (working 17 days in a row is awesome!) working on the Iceman fanlisting which is why I've been uncharacteristically quiet as of late. I think (read: hope) I'm almost done, so then I should be back to business as usual.)

Gather round my friends for a tale of woe. I awoke at 3am yesterday and found myself completely unable to get to sleep. No problem, I thought, I'll watch some TV and take a nap later since I don't have to be at work again until next week. At 9.40am, just as I was debating between having breakfast or having a nap, my phone rang. It was work. Telling me I should be at work and not in my bed. Turns out, even though I was under the impression that I had yesterday and today off, I was wrong. And all the things I had planned to do got thrown under the wheels of being a wage slave. Damnit.

I'm off to Donegal tomorrow for my cousin's 21st and I am not ready. Not one little bit. So I'm going to spend my morning zooming around shops looking for a present and picking up the various things people want me to bring back, before going to work until 8pm (stupid late night shopping). Then I have to come home and beautify myself in preparation for the weekend. Somewhere in there I'll need to pack which will involve me stopping dithering over my clothes. Going to Donegal is always high-pressure for me clothes-wise because, hi family, you're so judgmental about me because you think I only care about books.

Obviously, I'm behind on everything so I haven't answered any posts, comments or e-mails (or worked on any of the fanlistings I should have). Sorry guys! I'll get to it after the weekend. Assuming I haven't given myself alcohol poisoning in the interim =D

Holy shit, I finally finished upgrading Enthusiast and fuck me was it a pain in the arse. I must admit that the upgrade itself was painless and there were no problems (long may it stay that way). Changing the $path bit on every fanlisting though? My eyes are tired. BUT I DID IT!! *dances*

Other than conquering Enth, life is going pretty well. I probably will talk about my job in a bit more detail at some point but to summarise: I'm happy. It's not the most glamorous or interesting job, and I definitely need another one so I don't get evicted next month, but it's good. The pay is good, the conditions are good. The people are great. I actually have a social life now. Which is only helped by the fact that over the past week or two I've bought tickets to see Colin Murphy, Howling Bells, 65daysofstatic and Bell X1. I've also booked to fly home for a weekend for my cousin's 21st AND there's still rugby. Frankly, and not to jinx it, I'm feeling pretty good at the moment. It's an alien feeling but I love it!
